The battery may be dying, but if so it's a secondary issue caused by the real problem. The multimeter is showing 8 amps flowing THROUGH the multimeter. An internal short would not flow through the multimeter and thus not register. If you're using the term "series" correctly, meaning you pulled one of the battery cables and inserted the multimeter between the cable & terminal, then the 8 amps it shows has to be coming out of the positive terminal of the battery and flowing along a route outside the battery and back to the chassis & ground terminal. If you've pulled every fuse and every fusible link, I'm not really sure what that leaves. You could try disconnecting ALL the fuses and links at the same time and see if it's still there...then disconnect the starter & alternator. In theory that would isolate the battery completely so if you're out of ideas try that. Oh, and you don't have an aftermarket stereo do you?
